Shelby Materials recently named Eric Welling to the newly created role of Environmental, Health and Safety Manager. Welling will focus on Shelby’s safety measures for the health of both staff and customers, as well as sustainability practices to further the company’s impact on the environment and the communities it serves.
Welling
Welling has served as an environmental and safety consultant/engineer to Shelby Materials since 1991. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Master of Science in Environmental Science from Indiana University. Additionally, he has been an active member in the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association as well as the Environmental Committee of the Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association.
Welling has held multiple professional certifications over the years including Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) and an accredited Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Instructor.
Welling has lived in Indiana for most of his life, with a brief period in Florida as well. During his five years in Jacksonville, Fla., he was a Senior Environmental Engineer for Martin Marietta, covering 26 locations within multiple states and three different countries. He returned to Indiana in 2020.

Welling says he is happy to be filling this new role.
“I have worked with Shelby Materials for about 30 years now as a technical and compliance consultant on special projects,” he said. “It is wonderful to join the company as a full-time employee to continue to grow a culture of environmental and safety awareness and move our compliance programs forward.”
