Sharon McMahon remembers Don Jellison

Dear Editor:

I must admit that I am somewhat intimidated to be writing a tribute letter about Don Jellison when I read the letters and quotes from esteemed community leaders who have shared their remembrances and their love for a special person who is no longer with us. I cannot say that I knew Don well though I have known him for a long time. His son David was a good friend of my son Jeff when they were very small through their teenage years. Dave was known as “Jelly” to his buddies and was sadly missed when he passed away. I have not lost a child so I can only imagine Don’s grief at Dave’s passing. My oldest son was also a Babe Ruth player, in the 80’s when it was strong program – Don Jellison had much to do with that as well.

I have also known Don through his years at the Noblesville Daily Ledger and my years as the director of the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce. I always knew Don to have a dry sense of humor, a sharp wit, and a knowledge of sports that borders on legendary. In fact, I would say that Don Jellison is a legend of Noblesville and Hamilton County, and I am proud to have made his acquaintance. Don was not only a gentleman, but a gentle man, someone who represented us well in our community and whose memory will continue to inspire us. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and his dear friends.
