The Noblesville wrestling team hosted another all-county dual meet on Tuesday, welcoming Westfield to The Mill.
The Shamrocks are ranked 15th in the state, and performed like it, winning the dual over the Millers 51-16. Westfield won 10 of the 14 matches.
Noblesville, wrestling on its Senior Night, started the match appropriately when senior Joey Kitko won the 170-pound bout with a pin. But the Shamrocks took over after that, triumphing in the next 10 matches. That included falls from Seth Martin (182), Dakota Arvin (220), Cooper Pfeiffer (113), Braxton Vest (120), Thaddeus O’Neill (126) and Alec McLaren (138).
“I felt like we wrestled okay,” said Westfield coach Phil Smith. “I thought we left a few points out there. We had a few backups in today and I think they wrestled really well.”
The Shamrocks got decision victories from Gabe Arvin at 195, Chase Camire at 106 and Ike O’Neill at 138. Mike Platonov won the 285-pound match by forfeit.
Westfield is 14-4 in dual meets, but Smith noted that once his team got the football players back after the state tournament run, “we’ve been undefeated with that lineup ever since.”
Noblesville took the final three matches of the meet. Carter Richardson got a major decision win at 145, senior Tim Alexander won at 152 and Bryce Murray took the 160-pound match in a back-and-forth 12-9 decision.
“It’s fun to get out there and compete against them,” said Millers coach Michael Weimer. “Just like anything, on a Senior Night, it’s great to see both of our seniors, Joey Kitko win with a pin and Timmy get a win, too.”
Both teams are back in action next Tuesday, Dec. 29. Westfield will participate in the Cascade Invitational, while Noblesville travels to Daleville to compete in a super dual event.
