Westfield was among the boys basketball teams that got an unplanned week off due to last week’s winter storm, which meant that the Shamrocks’ game with Harrison Tuesday at CSI Gymnasium was their first in 10 days.
Westfield made its return a winning one, as the IBCA No. 12-ranked ‘Rocks beat the Raiders 63-53. Westfield led 11-10 after the first quarter, then extended its lead to 27-19 by halftime. Cam Haffner scored seven points in the second period, while Trey Buchanan made two 3-pointers in the first quarter.
The Shamrocks pulled away in the third period, thanks to a dominant performance from Alex Romack. The 6-5 sophomore poured in 16 points in the third, accounting for all but two of Westfield’s points in that period, including a pair of three-point plays.
Haffner scored two points for the ‘Rocks in that period, and Westfield led 45-28 after three. Harrison tried to come back in the fourth, but the Shamrocks were able to hold off the Raider, with Romack scoring another eight points.
Romack finished the game with 27 points, while Haffner totaled 13 and Buchanan scored 10.
Westfield is 14-5 and hosts Hamilton Heights Friday in an all-county game.
