Westfield weathered the storm at Tri-West on Tuesday, as the Shamrocks held off a comeback by the Bruins to win 53-52.
The ‘Rocks outscored Tri-West in each of the first three quarters, leading 19-15 after the first. Alyssa Crockett hit two 3-pointers on her way to eight points in that period, while Olivia Robey added seven points in the quarter, including a triple of her own.
Westfield extended its lead to 29-23 at halftime and then went up 45-35 after three quarters. The Bruins outscored the Shamrocks 17-8 in the fourth, but Westfield was able to hold on. Crockett helped out with five points in that period, and also made her fourth 3-pointer of the game during the quarter.
Crockett finished with four 3-pointers and 22 points, along with seven rebounds and six steals. Robey added nine points, six assists and six steals. Chesney Tebbe scored nine points and pulled four rebounds as well, while Jessica Castor added eight points.
The Shamrocks are now 2-1 and play at Lawrence Central on Saturday. Westfield’s game with New Castle that was scheduled for Friday has been canceled.
