Westfield edged out Fishers in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference girls basketball game that took place Friday at the Shamrocks’ CSI Gymnasium.
It was a close game for the entire 32 minutes. The Tigers led 12-8 after one quarter, with Morgan Roberts scoring five points. Ellie Kelleher scored six points for Westfield.
Both teams added 13 points in the second period, keeping Fishers ahead 25-21 at halftime. Nevaeh Dickman poured in seven points for the Tigers, with Joirdyn Smith draining two 3-pointers. Kelleher added another six points.
The Shamrocks got closer in the third quarter, cutting Fishers’ lead to 39-37 by the end of the period. Reagan Lorenzen got going from 3-point range, making three triples. Dickman and Allison Scheu both had six points in the quarter.
Westfield surged ahead in the fourth period, outscoring the Tigers 15-12. Four different players scored, with Kelleher adding five points, and Lorenzen making her fourth 3 of the game. Kiki Loveless also added a 3. Scheu kept Fishers in it with eight points.
Kelleher led all scorers with 19 points, followed by 14 for Lorenzen. Scheu scored 16 points and Dickman had 15.
This was the first HCC game of the season for both teams. Westfield is 4-1 and hosts Pike on Tuesday, while Fishers is 4-2 and hosts Zionsville Tuesday in another HCC contest.
