Westfield beat Noblesville in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game played at Victory Field Friday night, with the Class 4A No. 4 Shamrocks using solid pitching to beat the Millers 6-1. resulting in a split of the HCC series.
Gage Stanifer led the way for Westfield, going four and two-thirds innings. He allowed no hits and struck out 10. Ty Anderson relieved him in the fifth inning, and gave up only one hit for the remainder of the game.
The ‘Rocks scored their first run in the fourth inning; Keaton Mahan got home after Trey Dorton hit a sacrifice fly. Cole Ballard hit a two-run double for Westfield in the sixth inning, which sent Dorton and Evan Russ in to score.
The Shamrocks sprinted to the finish, putting up three runs in the seventh inning. Mac Clarke doubled in Brayden Hibler, Collin Lindsey’s single scored Luke Starr (running for Clarke), then Mahan stole home plate, the last of his five stolen bases in the game.
Mahan, Russ and Ballard all had two hits for Westfield, with Russ also hitting a double.
Noblesville scored its run in the bottom of the seventh inning; Elijah Bowers got home on Nolan Decker’s RBI groundout. Bowers had the Millers’ lone hit.
Westfield is 10-4 and plays Monday at Pendleton Heights. Noblesville is 8-8 and hosts New Castle tonight at Don Dunker Field.
