Dear Editor:

The Carmel City Council on Monday voted itself into an investigative committee to investigate an investigative committee it had previously set up.

Originally, the council created the Affiliate Review Committee “to evaluate nonprofit corporations and community development corporations that are affiliates of the City of Carmel.”

It began its work by shutting down the money-losing All Things Carmel and Promote Carmel organizations.

When it appeared ready to investigate how taxpayer funds were used by Christkindlmarkt, the fur flew.

Four officials of the market resigned and gossip had it that big financial shenanigans were being uncovered.

Monday the city council decided to investigate the investigators it had told to investigate waste, fraud and abuse DOGE-like in Carmel.

Next month the council might appoint an investigative commission to investigate the investigative committee investigating the review committee.

And an endless daisy-chain will ensue.
