Dear Editor:

It is easy to gloat over the financial difficulties of New Yorkers. Every day the media reports on another financial fiasco in the nation’s biggest city.

The public debt of 8.5 million citizens totals upwards of $96.9 billion according to Google AI. That’s $11,400 per capita.

Back home in Carmel, Ind., its 103,093 citizens bear $2.063 billion in combined city, township, schools and library debt. That’s $20,012 per capita.

What? Carmel folks owe 1.7 times what New Yorkers owe?

Can Google AI be that far off?
