Noblesville native Ashlynn Shade was a part of the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team that became national champions last Sunday.
The Huskies won their record 12th national title by defeating defending champion South Carolina 82-59 in the title game at Tampa, Fla. UConn outscored the Gamecocks in each of the four quarters, leading 36-26 at halftime and 62-42 after three periods.
Shade finished the game with four points, two assists and two steals. She played in all 40 games for the Huskies, starting in 12 of them, and averaged 7.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for the season.
Shade played for Noblesville her first three years, winning a Class 4A state championship with the Millers in 2022. She transferred to La Lumiere in La Porte for her senior season, graduating in 2023.
