Service and diversity live in Noblesville community

Mother of five. Seeker of justice. Believer in good.

Coretta Scott King said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”

The Noblesville Diversity Coalition is proud to partner with SERVE Noblesville again this year for the second annual Cultural Celebration. Did you know there are currently over 55 languages spoken within our school district? This event gives our community the opportunity to celebrate the dynamic diversity we have and inclusion we strive for.

NDC and SERVE believe that by creating space for neighbors to serve alongside neighbors we allow for the beauty of our community to shine through. This unique focus on service, community and togetherness fosters a sense of belonging and respect for one another. It’s open to all ages and is a great way for your team, organization or family to contribute to the health of our community.

SERVE Noblesville is a partnership of neighbors, churches, businesses and organizations whose goal is to “Connect Compassionate Neighbors.” They do this by creating a sense of pride and ownership in Noblesville through a series of service projects. This year the events take place from June 26 to 29, with the Cultural Celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 28 on the square.

At last year’s event 18 different countries were showcased. Neighbors from Puerto Rico, Kenya, Venezuela, Jamaica, Vietnam and more shared food, music and their traditions with the community. It was a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to meet, interact and develop a stronger appreciation of one another. It’s a beautiful time to learn more about customs and countries other than our own and a perfect way to expose your children to other cultures without the expense of leaving town. If you are a member of our community interested in sharing your culture, contact servenoblesville@gmail.com.

True inclusion and equity comes not when we are all trying to be the same or in forcing people to give up their beliefs and traditions because they don’t jive with our own but in celebrating our differences. Each of us has a unique set of experiences, gifts and talents that make us who we are. Our community needs you. There is only one like you and we are designed to be in fellowship with one another. Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”

I love that NDC and SERVE have this focus of connecting others to build a stronger community. It is efforts like these that can have a profound impact on our lives. You can find more information on the SERVE Noblesville website or their Facebook page to get you or your family involved. Come celebrate with us at the Cultural Celebration on June 28 and take the time to make connections that will enrich your life. Enjoy a walk through the world without leaving the square. I’ll see you there.
