Sens. Young, Braun join colleagues on bill defunding ‘disinformation board’

Indiana’s U.S. Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun joined a group of senators on Tuesday introducing legislation to bar federal funds from being used to establish a Disinformation Governance Board at the Department of Homeland Security.

“The idea that a ‘disinformation board’ of unelected government bureaucrats should enforce speech rules is both radical and unconstitutional,” Sen. Young said. “Hoosiers shouldn’t have to answer to a government bureaucracy when exercising their First Amendment right to free speech. This board should be shut down immediately.”

In addition to Young and Braun, Senators John Boozman (R-Ark.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), John Kennedy (R-La.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), and Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) joined the bill as cosponsors.
