“We’re honored by the outpouring of support our campaign is receiving from voters and organizations representing first responders, law enforcement, small businesses, manufacturers, builders and workers across a variety of industries,” Walker said. “My goal is to be an effective voice for our district and all of its residents. In these final days of the campaign, we’re energized by the support and I look forward to continuing to serve Hoosiers in Senate District 31.”
The Hamilton County Professional Fire Fighters Local 4416 PAC represents fire departments across the county, including Fishers in Walker’s district.
“Senator Walker has taken meaningful action to prioritize public safety and support first responders,” said Colin Fogarty, Political Director of the Hamilton County Professional Fire Fighters Local 4416 PAC. “He authored important legislation to help our 911 system operate more efficiently and effectively to serve Hoosiers and has led several other efforts to strengthen public safety across the region.”
In 2022, Walker authored legislation to improve the state’s EMS response process between the 911 system and municipalities to ensure that the closest emergency response agency is notified, regardless of jurisdictional lines (SEA 247). Walker also sponsored legislation (HEA 1314) that will provide more tools and resources to retired, professional, and volunteer firefighters.
The Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Union Local 416, which represents more than 2,300 members, also voiced its support for Walker.
“We appreciate Senator Walker’s dedication and service to the residents of Marion and Hamilton counties, and his focus on public safety,” said Hank Harris, President of the Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Union Local 416. “His experience, professionalism and integrity are a great asset to the State Senate.”
The Lawrence District of the Local 416 echoed its support for Walker. “Senator Walker is a consistent supporter and advocate for fire fighters and first responders in Lawrence, and the people we serve,” said Nick Rehmel, President of the Lawrence District of the Local 416. “We look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen public safety in Lawrence.”
Walker has been a leader in advancing efforts to improve public safety and support first responders. In 2022, Walker authored legislation to improve electronic monitoring of offenders to prevent them from going on to commit additional crimes while under surveillance (SEA 9). He also authored bills to encourage law enforcement collaboration to tackle violent crime in the region (SEA 7), and to protect the identities of child crime victims (SEA 117). In 2021, he sponsored legislation to create and fund the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force, enabling regional law enforcement agencies to work together to track guns used to commit crimes across Central Indiana and bring violent criminals to justice (HEA 1558).
