The Indiana Department of Transportation is reminding motorists that southbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 465 between I-70 and I-65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis are closed for two weeks as of Friday, Sept. 6.
Once the closure is in effect, INDOT is anticipating heavy traffic and long delays on southbound I-465 from I-69 to I-70 approaching the closure, especially during the peak weekday morning commuting hours.
To avoid delays, motorists who commute to Indianapolis from communities north and east of the city, including Anderson, Carmel, Fishers, Lawrence, McCordsville, Muncie, Noblesville, Pendleton and Westfield should allow extra time and consider using alternate routes. Motorists who do use southbound I-465 between I-69 and I-70 during peak commuting hours should expect slow-moving traffic and delays of as much as 45 minutes to an hour.
To alleviate I-465 congestion, INDOT is closing entrance ramps to southbound I-465 from 56th Street/Shadeland Avenue and U.S. 36/State Road 67 (Pendleton Pike) for the duration of the project.
Commuters may consider the following local routes to and from Indianapolis:
- S. 31 (Meridian Street)
- College Avenue
- Westfield Boulevard
- Keystone Avenue
- Allisonville Road
- Binford Boulevard
- Fall Creek Road
- Pendleton Pike/Massachusetts Avenue
- Shadeland Avenue
