Starting this week, the Hamilton County Reporter will no longer have a Sunday edition. Before you shoot the messenger, let’s look at what that really means.
A lot has changed during 2022. One of those things is ownership of Hamilton County’s Hometown Newspaper. Another is the amount of news in these pages.
People keep telling us how packed with local content this newspaper always is. Our stats nerds (or stats geeks – they wear either title with pride) did a little research that you may find interesting.
In 2021 the average number of pages in a daily online edition was 9.3. Now we are bringing you an average of 14.25 pages per day.
In 2021 the average print edition was just under 12 pages. Now it averages over 19.
The increase in community support has clearly turned into the increase in pages, and we are deeply grateful for that.
Our stats nerds have also noticed that most readers open the Sunday edition on Monday.
The Monday print and online editions are the same newspaper, just in different formats to suit the preferences of our readers. Since Monday has always been the “Week In Review,” some people read the Sunday edition to have content fresh to their eyes on Monday mornings.
From now on, while the Monday editions will still be “Your Hometown Week In Review,” those print and online Monday editions will now contain a fair bit of new content to compliment the highlights from the week’s top stories.
Let’s do some math, shall we?
- Five online editions averaging 9.3 pages each plus one print edition averaging 11.8 pages in 2021 was 58.3 pages of local news per week.
- Four online editions per week averaging 14.25 pages plus one print editions averaging 19 pages is 76 pages of local news per week.
We are not bringing you any less news or any less value. We are still giving you far more than we ever did before. Some of us just need a day off.
See you, Monday, Hamilton County!
