Second-half surge pushes Millers past Harrison

The REPORTER

Tuesday night, Noblesville hosted former Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Harrison. The Raiders have been in the North Central Conference since 2014 but have been back on the Millers’ schedule for the fourth season in a row now.

Noblesville’s trademark suffocating trap defense forced Harrison into 27 turnovers (18 Miller steals) as they pulled away in the second half for a 67-38 home court win.

A quick 7-0 start and an early lead that grew to 11-2, forced the Raiders to burn two timeouts. Harrison fought back to trail by four to trail just 20-16 after one.

The Raiders would continue ways to keep up with the Millers in the second. But a couple of short runs later, Noblesville held onto a 31-24 lead at halftime.

The second half was a different story for both squads. Noblesville pushed its lead to double digits at 49-34 through three.

The Millers kept up the defensive pressure and offensive intensity for an 18-4 fourth quarter to win going away, 67-38.

Meredith Tippner led the Millers with 20 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Tippner also sank 4-for-4 from the foul line. Ava Shoemaker was right behind with 19 points, grabbing five boards, four assists and eight steals. Reagan Wilson came on strong in the second half to finish with 17, three assists and six steals. Noblesville outrebounded Harrison 42-23.

Noblesville (12-8) next hosts Franklin Central on Saturday for its final HCC action with the junior varsity tipoff set for 11 a.m.
