Saturday sports briefs: Carmel girls tennis opens season with win

The Carmel girls tennis teams opened its season Saturday with a 4-1 Metropolitan Conference win at No. 11-ranked Center Grove.
Four players had first-ever varsity wins for the No. 2-ranked Greyhounds: Hallie Reeves, Anjali Natarajan, Nora Perkins and Alexa Lewis.
Carmel hosts Guerin Catholic on Tuesday.

‘ROCKS TENNIS SECOND AT DELTA INVITE
The Westfield girls tennis team finished second at the Delta Invitational on Saturday.
The Shamrocks dropped a close to the host and No. 14-ranked Eagles 3-2 in the first round. No. 1 singles Isabella Clark won 6-0, 6-4 and No. 3 singles Alana Raymond won 6-2, 6-4.
Westfield then breezed past its next two rounds, defeating No. 20 West Lafayette 5-0 and Fort Wayne Canterbury 5-0. Shamrocks winners against the Red Devils were No. 1 Norris, No. 2 Julia Gabennesch and No. 3 Alana Raymond in singles, and the doubles teams of No. 1 Maya Raymond/Olivia Krauss and No. 2 Emma Schwind/Chloe Carlson.
Against Canterbury, Norris won at No. 1 singles and Gabennesch was victorious in a hard-fought No. 2 singles match. Krauss moved to No. 3 singles and won 6-0, 6-1. Maya Raymond and Alana Raymond also cruised, winning at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0, while No. 2 Lauren Hammond and Abby Short also won in straight sets.

MILLERS BOYS GOLF THIRD AT TWIN LAKES INVITE
The Noblesville boys golf team placed third out of 19 teams at the Twin Lakes Invitational Saturday at Tippecanoe Country Club.
The Millers scored a team total of 332. Twin Lakes Red won with 317, followed by Plymouth with 328. Noblesville’s Will Perkins placed fourth individually with a round of 75. Other Millers scores were Alex Peck 82, Brady Mangin 83, Drew Decker 92 and Gabe Smith 92.
Other top 10 team finishers were Tipton 336, Faith Christian 344, Logansport 348, Rensselaer Central 361, Harrison 368, West Lafayette 273 and Twin Lakes White 374.
