Sandra Louise Gidman

December 18, 1941 – May 21, 2020

Sandra Louise Gidman, 78, passed away at her home in Sheridan surrounded by her loving family on Thursday morning, May 21, 2020. She was born December 18, 1941 in Taunton, Mass, to the late Burpee and Mary D. (Wilson) Boehner, and was a 1959 graduate of Taunton High School.

She was a member of Lifepointe Church in Westfield and a member of the Hamilton County Master Gardeners.

Sandra was an incredibly special person who quietly helped make the world a better place for everyone who knew her. Her creative nature led her to many different types of outreach during her life. Sandra combined her love of writing and scrapbooking to create her own unique ministry. For some, Sandra wrote daily letters to let them know that she was thinking of them. For others, she compiled scrapbooks filled with inspirational pictures, poems, and words of encouragement to help keep them focused and uplift their spirits during their various struggles. She lovingly sent them to shut-ins, those suffering through cancer and other debilitating diseases, hospice patients, those affected by dementia, nursing home residents, and anyone else that Sandra thought needed a sign that they were not going through this alone. She was also a talented knitter, making hats and scarves for anyone and everyone.

Sandra loved taking care of her Church family as well, using her talents as an organist and pianist for many congregations during her life. And last, but certainly not least, Sandra had a passion for gardening. Her love for plants, the ability to imagine what they could grow to become, and her willingness to help others in their gardening adventures, is why Sandra was a true master gardener.

With a true servant’s heart, Sandra was a wonderful advocate for those who needed help and an example of God’s true love. Her strong faith and love for her fellow neighbor is a legacy that speaks volumes.

Sandra was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved traveling with her family and going on new adventures.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband, John W. Gidman. She and John were married on June 17, 1961. She is also survived by her three sons, John Thomas “Tommy” Gidman (Deloris), Carmel, Christopher James “Chris” Gidman (Ellen), Kalamazoo, Mich., and Paul G. Gidman (Jody), Noblesville; five grandchildren; two brothers, Don Boehner, Brockton, Mass., and Stephen Boehner (Kristin), Ponte Verde, Fla.; and two sisters, Jean Root (Bob), Danforth, Maine, and Christine Meekins (Elisha), Wanchese, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Alan Boehner.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Eagle Creek Cemetery in rural Westfield. Pastor Woody Cumbie will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be presented to Lifepointe Church of Westfield, 3233 W. 166th St., Westfield, IN 46074.
