Sandra Kay “Sandi” Whitacre, 72, Noblesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Riverview Health in Noblesville. She was born on August 27, 1950, to Robert Thomas and Reka Gennell (Cridlin) Nelson in Saint Charles, Va.
Sandi was a 1968 graduate of Noblesville High School and began her working career with Statesmen Insurance. After leaving Statesman, she worked at St. Vincent Hospital in the laboratory until they contracted their lab work out to Mid America Clinical Laboratories (MACL). MACL hired Sandi and she worked there from 1971 until 2018, retiring with 47 years of service.
Sandi was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Noblesville. She was also a member of the Girls Night Out Bunco Club. Sandi loved to read, enjoyed theatre and was a classic movie buff.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Marie “Katy” Whitacre-Cooper (Matthew); grandson, Gabriel Whitacre-Cooper; and nephews, Jimmy Swain and Todd Swain.
In addition to her parents, Sandi was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas R. Nelson; sisters, Brenda Nelson, Carolyn Swain, and Connie Nelson; and her nephew, Jason Andrew.
She will be especially missed by her dear friends, Carla Crandall and Vickie Bennett.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with funeral services at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
