Hamilton Heights made history Friday during its 88-50 win over Logansport.
The Huskies gave their home crowd an incredible long-range shooting performance throughout the entire game. Heights set a new record for 3-pointers made by a team; the Huskies drained 18 triples, making 50 percent of their 3-point baskets.
“We had multiple kids hit 3s,” said Heights coach Chad Ballenger. “We had kids come off the bench, hit 3s.”
The majority of those 3s came from Gavin Saunders. The senior went off for 12 3-pointers, also setting a new record for triples by an individual. Saunders was 12-for-20 beyond the arc, a red-hot 60 percent.
“Kids got him the ball,” said Ballenger. “He got it in the offense, we scored off our defense. It wasn’t him playing one-on-one and trying to create. Our kids did a good job of getting him the ball in the right spots.”
The Huskies rocketed through the first quarter, taking a 26-4 lead on the Berries, who they were playing for the first time as Hoosier Conference East Division opponents. Heights led 42-19 at halftime and 57-34 after three quarters, then ran away with the fourth period by scoring 31 points.
“The place got into it,” said Ballenger.
Tyler Champion nailed three 3s on his way to 10 points, with Jack Kakasuleff scoring eight points. All 11 Huskies that took to the floor scored at least two points.
Dreydin Serna led the rebounds with eight, followed by Saunders with six and Champion with five. Carson Felger handed out five assists.
Heights is 3-2 and plays tonight at the Muncie Fieldhouse Classic. The Huskies take on the host Muncie Central Bearcats at 6 p.m.
