Ruth Ellen Edwards, 91, entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at her home in Arcadia. Ruth was born in the small town of Dugger, Ind., to Floyd and Ethel Waddell on July 14, 1933.
On October 22, 1960, she married Gene Edwards and they spent 42 years of marriage together before Gene’s passing in 2002.
Ruth graduated from Windfall High School in 1951, after which she had a few different jobs until choosing to work in the cafeteria for Walnut Grove High School and then Hamilton Heights High School for over 37 years.
A homemaker in the truest sense of the word, Ruth enjoyed and excelled in all things domestic. When she wasn’t outside tending to the garden or the family farm, she could be found inside cooking and baking; she was especially known for her pies and cookies. Ruth also loved reading and was a faithful member of Omega Christian Church, but by far her greatest delight was found in spending time with her friends and family.
Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her son, Glenn (Jennifer) Edwards of Tipton; stepdaughter, Dinah (Marvin) Thacker of Tippecanoe, Ind.; stepdaughter, Karen (Michael) Gordon of Argos, Ind.; stepson, Tom (Susan) Edwards of Spencerville; stepson, Roy (Donna) Edwards of East Ridge, Tenn.; and sister, Reba Hale of Kokomo. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband Gene and her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Waddell.
Services for Ruth will be conducted Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Hartley Funeral Home in Cicero. Visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a funeral ceremony officiated by Pastor Neal Brown will begin at 1 p.m. Immediately following the funeral, a committal service will take place at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Ind., where Ruth will be laid to rest.
