Hamilton Southeastern scored a dual meet sweep of Brownsburg on Saturday.
The Royals girls team won 142.5-43.5. Southeastern coach Andy Pedersen said his freshman class stepped up, led by Molly Robinson winning the breaststroke and finishing a close second in the 500 freestyle. Robinson also had a strong split in the 400 free relay. Katherine Kesler, Rebecca Ang, Ashley Baker and Kennedy Fisher all had strong efforts.
“This was a nice win for the Lady Royals – the leadership was really impressive from our senior class,” said Pedersen. “We were also very proud to be represented by Team Captains Bella Goss and Mo Pedersen today. The cheering on deck was strong and the team did an outstanding job of being cohesive and supporting one another. In that regard, it was the best effort we have seen this year and is a great predictor of the direction the team is heading.”
HSE’s boys won 139-47. Thomas Reising broke 1:05 to win the breaststroke, while AJ Ricafort won the diving event. Evan Sellers placed first in the 500 free and swam a strong final 25 yards to place second in the 200 free. Logan Hess, Nick Bostock and Alex Kaminski (third in the 500 free) all had impressive races as well.
“We will close out by commending our two captains,” said Pedersen. “Collin Matasovsky is as gritty a kid as we have ever had here and just comes to work each day…just like all of us, he has good days and bad ones, but it rarely impacts his effort level as that is incredibly consistent. Matteo Fontanin got a varsity opportunity and made the most of it with four outstanding swims today – this is exactly the kind of effort we have come to expect from Matteo. He is professional as can be with his approach to this sport – he comes to work, gives a great effort and then takes a break so he can be ready to do it all over again…he gets that this sport is a grind and that is not a bad thing.”
The Royals will travel to Westfield on Tuesday for a dual meet.
