Hamilton Southeastern’s basketball teams were swept by Zionsville Friday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference doubleheader at the Eagles’ gym.
In the girls game, the Class 4A No. 10 Royals fell 54-33. Zionsville completely dominated the first quarter, taking a 21-2 lead by the end of the period. Southeastern turned things around on defense in the second quarter, holding the Eagles to four points, but still trailed 25-11 at halftime. The Royals were within 37-26 after three quarters, but Zionsville pulled away in the fourth.
Riley Makalusky scored 10 points and pulled five rebounds for Southeastern. Ryan Viele added seven points.
In the boys game, Southeastern fell 53-40 to the 4A No. 9 Eagles. Zionsville led 17-10 after the first quarter and were up 23-17 at halftime, with the Royals holding the Eagles to six points. But Zionsville would outscore HSE in each of the next two quarters for the win.
Vinny Buccilla scored 12 points for the Royals and also handed out five assists. Alex Totton added 10 points. Dalton Retzner and John McCall both had five rebounds.
Southeastern’s boys team is 2-2 in the conference and 5-6 overall, and hosts Mount Vernon tonight to begin a six-game homestand. The Royals girls are now 2-3 in HCC play and 10-5 overall, and continue conference action Tuesday at Avon.
