Royals rocket skyward, beat Fort Wayne Carroll

The REPORTER

A dominant second quarter propelled Hamilton Southeastern to a season-opening victory at Fort Wayne Carroll on Friday.

The Royals beat the Chargers 45-21. Both teams scored a touchdown in the first quarter; AZ Wallace got Southeastern on the board with a one-yard run into the end zone.

Wallace stepped it up in the second period, putting in three TDs, all from short distances. Wallace got the first score just four seconds into the quarter, then the Royals’ Kian Kelly recovered a fumble on the kickoff return. A few seconds later, Wallace was back in the end zone for another one-yard TD run.

Wallace made a three-yard touchdown carry later in the quarter to move HSE ahead 28-7, and that’s where the score would be at halftime. In the third quarter, Chandler Weston made a five-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Pennybaker to five the Royals a 35-14 lead. Hugo Belmonte kicked in a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, then Carter Reed punched the ball in from the one late in that period.

Wallace gained 112 yards on 25 carries, while Weston completed 17 of 24 throws for 129 yards. Hugo Belmonte made all six of his extra-point attempts.

Southeastern hosts North Central next Friday.
