Hamilton Southeastern won its third consecutive game on Thursday, beating Warren Central 52-43 in a home game.
The Royals got off to a strong start, leading 18-12 after the first quarter. Maya Makalusky helped out with 10 points, including two 3-pointers, while four other players combined to go 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
The Warriors cut into Southeastern’s lead slightly by halftime, getting within 25-21 at the break. Warren then scored to make it 25-23. But the Royals made a quick run to get up 33-23, including back-to-back 3s from Makayla Hinshaw and Olivia Brown.
Later, Riley Makalusky scored off a great pass from Maya Makalusky, and HSE led 40-28. The Royals led 42-33 after three periods, and kept their lead around that margin throughout the fourth quarter.
“We came out, had some good possessions, both offensively and defensively, hit those two 3s to get around that 10-point lead,” said Southeastern coach Brian Satterfield. “And then I was hoping we could just keep pulling away, but that’s where you got to give them credit. They kept fighting back.”
Brown had another outstanding game. She led the Royals’ scoring with 16 points, and also had seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Riley Makalusky finished with 13 points and led the rebounds with eight, while Maya Makalusky scored 12 points. Zoe Bolding made three blocked shots.
Southeastern, now 11-6, is off until next Friday, Jan. 14, when it returns to Hoosier Crossroads Conference action at Westfield.
