Royals overwhelmed by No. 1 New Pal

Hamilton Southeastern ran into a buzzsaw at New Palestine Thursday, as the Class 3A No. 1 Dragons beat the Royals 19-8 in five innings.
Southeastern scored the first two runs of the game when Jordan Rager’s left field single sent Abby Taylor and Lillian Leiner home. The Royals’ lead didn’t last long, as New Palestine scored four runs in the bottom of the first, then poured in nine runs in the second inning.
Southeastern scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings. Nicole Lang hit a two-run home run to score herself and Libby Ratliff in the third inning, and that was followed by an Ahliza Moore RBI single to send Kaelin Wincek home.
In the fourth inning, Wincek cracked a three-run homer; Rager and Ratliff also scored. The Royals cut the Dragons’ lead to 16-8 with that, but New Pal scored three runs in the bottom of the inning, and two strikeouts ended the game in the top of the fifth.
Rager, Ratliff and Wincek all finished the game with two hits; Wincek’s were her homer and a double in the third inning.
The Royals are 3-3 and will host Fishers at 6 p.m. tonight in the Mudsock game.
