Royals girls tennis improves to 3-0

The Hamilton Southeastern girls tennis team scored a 4-1 victory over No. 17-ranked Cathedral 4-1 Friday at the Royals’ courts.
No. 5-ranked Southeastern fell behind 1-0 when the Royals had to retire after one set in the No. 2 singles match. But Southeastern quickly won the other four. No. 2 doubles Meghan Slaninka and Kaylee Etheredge were 6-1, 6-2 winners, then No. 1 doubles Misha Bukkasagaram and Emily Orme took their match 6-2, 6-1. No. 1 singles Tea Vrkic was the clincher, getting a 6-2, 6-2 victory. No. 3 singles Emma Bieberich finished things up with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
“This is a huge win for the Royals as the last time we have beaten Cathedral was in 2013,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber.
Southeastern is 3-0 for the season and plays at No. 24 North Central on Monday.

Westfield won its home opener on Friday, beating Heritage Christian 3-2.
The Shamrocks swept both doubles matches, with No. 1 Maya Raymond and Olivia Krauss winning 6-3, 6-0 and No. 2 Emma Schwind and Chloe Carlson getting a 6-0, 6-0 victory. No. 3 singles Alana Raymond won her match 6-0, 6-1.

Noblesville beat No. 16 Zionsville 3-2 in a Thursday Hoosier Crossroads Conference dual meet.
The Millers swept both doubles matches, with No. 1 Kaylee David and Katleyn Decker winning 6-4, 7-6 and No. 2 Sierra Leach and Lina Hamashuk winning 6-2, 6-1. No. 3 singles Josie Flinchum got a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
