Royals falter at Franklin Central

Hamilton Southeastern hit the road last night to Franklin Township to face the Flashes. The Royals held the lead late, but the host Flashes scored late to secure the win, 14-10.

After a scoreless first quarter, both teams got on the board in the second.

The Flashes scored just past the midway point of the second on a rushing touchdown for a 7-0 lead.

Hugo Belmonte put HSE’s first points up with a 39-yard field as time expired and the Royals trailed 7-3 at halftime.

Toward the end of the third, Southeastern went 64 yards in eight plays and capped off the scoring drive to take the lead 10-7 when Graham Toner caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Chandler Weston.

HSE held the slim lead for a majority of the fourth. Franklin Central grabbed the lead 14-10 when Nevan Tutterow threw a touchdown pass with 29 seconds left to give the Flashes the upset win.

Carter Reed was the leading rusher with 51 yards on 16 carries. Chandler Weston went 13 of 23 for 142 yards.

Graham Toner caught three for 33, Liam Boyd five for 28 and Callen Okerson one for 37.

No. 8 Hamilton Southeastern (5-3, 3-3 HCC) will host top-ranked Brownsburg (8-0, 6-0 HCC) next Friday. The Bulldogs held off Noblesville last night, 22-18.
