Hamilton Southeastern dropped a back-and-forth Hoosier Crossroads Conference game with Brownsburg 31-28 Friday at the Bulldogs’ field.
The Class 6A No. 5 Royals led 7-3 after the first quarter, with Owen Jones scoring on a 54-yard pass play. Southeastern then led 21-17 at halftime, with Dylan Connor finding the end zone on a 55-yard pass play, and Blaine Wertz scoring a rushing touchdown.
Wertz added another rushing touchdown in the third quarter, and the Royals led 28-24 going into the fourth. But the 6A No. 6 Bulldogs scored with 9:40 left in the fourth and held the lead from there.
Southeastern coach Michael Kelly said that after the Royals led by 10 points, “offensively, we just kind of stalled out big time. And then they were able to get some momentum running the football in the second half.”
Game stats were unavailable at press time and will run in a later edition.
Southeastern finished in third place in the HCC standings with a 5-2 record and are 7-2 overall. The Royals are off next week, then host Fishers on Friday, Oct. 29 in the semi-finals of Sectional 5.
