Hamilton Southeastern had an impromptu 10-day break due to last week’s winter storm, but the Royals made up for some it during their Tuesday game at Southport.
Southeastern and the Cardinals played a double-overtime contest, with the Royals prevailing 73-70. Southport led 13-9 after the first quarter, but Southeastern came back to hold a 23-22 advantage at halftime.
The Royals then blasted through the third period, at one point leading 44-29. Southeastern led 46-34 at the end of the quarter, but the Cardinals dominated the fourth, outscoring HSE 16-4 to tie the game at 50-50 at the end of regulation. Both teams scored six points in the first overtime, and the Royals outscored Southport 17-14 in the second extra period.
Donovan Hamilton had an outstanding game for Southeastern, draining four 3-pointers on his way to 28 points and collecting 12 rebounds for a double-double. Sam Jacobs had 17 points, while Reph Stevenson added 16 points and pulled seven rebounds. Michael Griffith had five rebounds and Deion Miles dished out five assists.
The Royals are 7-10 and host Carmel on Friday.
