Ronald “Ron” Hartman, 90, Noblesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Riverview Hospital.
Ron was born in Bronson, Mich., on July 24, 1933, to the late Herman and Kathryn Hartman. In June of 1963, he married Frances “Fran” George and shared 60 years of marriage.
Ron graduated from Bronson High School in 1951. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Western Michigan University. After his studies, Ron proudly served his country in the Air Force. Following his service, he worked as a chemist for Climax Molybdenum in Coldwater and later in Ann Arbor, Mich. In 1973, Ron joined Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Ind., where he played a pivotal role in opening the Walesboro Chemistry Laboratory. Over the years, he held various positions within Cummins until his retirement in 1985.
A man of faith, Ron was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Noblesville. He was also dedicated to his involvement with the Gideons and the Great Banquet, faithfully attending their regular meetings. Ron had a passion for bridge and maintained a weekly card group with his friends. He was a former member of Sister Cities of Noblesville, which afforded him the opportunity to travel to Italy. Ron enjoyed a vibrant life filled with diverse interests. Over the years, he could be found playing golf, stargazing through his telescope, attending Colts games, and cheering on the Indiana Pacers. His enthusiasm for travel, theater, musical shows, and spending time with family and friends was evident to all who knew him. Ron’s zest for life was contagious, and he never turned down an adventure. His primary goal was to bring joy to others through his stories and jokes. He will be dearly missed.
Ron is survived by his wife, Fran Hartman; daughters, Lori Hartman and Lisa (Randy) Batts; son, Craig (Jenna) Hartman; grandchildren, Zachary (Allison) Batts, Laura (Sam) Batts-Thomas, Jack Hartman, William Hartman, Patrick Hartman, and Caroline Hartman; sister, Phyllis (Tom) Duke, brother, Jim (Karen) Hartman; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church of Noblesville, 1207 Conner St., Noblesville. A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the church with Eric Gale officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Bronson Cemetery in Bronson, Mich. Immediately following the service, ashes will be scattered at the Bronson ball diamond.
The family has entrusted Ron’s care to Hartley Funeral Homes in Cicero, Ind.

Fran and family, we are so sad and sorry to hear about your loss. He was such a smart, vibrant and funny man. We will surely miss him – and his jokes.
