Ronald Cooper

September 25, 1949 – March 23, 2021

Ronald Cooper passed away on March 23, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Beech Grove, Ind., on September 25, 1949 to Osborne and Jewell (Miller) Cooper. A Southport High School graduate, he also attended Indiana University before he set out to conquer the world.

He was a salesman, and a very good one, helping to “make people happy spending their money.” After many years working for Certified Floor Covering, he moved onto the Housing Sign business. But 17 years ago, going to work for himself, he built His & Hers Target Sports selling guns. He became known for his black rifles! He found his arena and was happy and blessed.

Being in the gun business brought him into the action shooting sport, USPSA. He supported the sport every year as a sponsor. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Conservation Club and is the longest known member there.

Previous to his gun hobby he was an expert boater. While living on Morse Lake he spent many hours on the water enjoying good times with friends. He loved to travel and spent time in Mexico, the Bahamas, and Belize where he went scuba diving. He checked off a lot of places on his list of vacations but never did see the cactus bloom. He loved going to museums and studied history and fossils. He dreamed of being a substitute teacher or mentor for young men after retirement.

Ron will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend, Mary Ann; his son, Nick; his brothers and sister, Larry, Gary, and Michelle; and granddaughter, Sydni. He will also be remembered fondly by his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and good friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life at Big Hoffa’s Barn in Westfield at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 11.
