Rocks get strong win in season open

The Westfield girls basketball team opened its season with a 51-41 win Tuesday at North Central.

The Shamrocks got going early, taking a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. Sam Price scored eight points, while Lindsey Van Dyke drained two 3-pointers. Westfield stayed in front 23-19 at halftime and 35-32 after three periods, then pulled away with 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Price scored six points in the fourth and finished with 20 points for the game. Aubrey Crockett and MaKayla Hatcher each totaled nine points.

The Shamrocks host Pendleton Heights on Saturday.
