Rocks get big walk off win over Cathedral

The Westfield baseball team scored a walk off victory over Cathedral 6-5 in a Wednesday home game.

The Irish got the game’s first run in the second inning. The Shamrocks answered with two runs in the third; Tyler Gentry’s right field base hit scored Ian Wilson and Collin Lindsey.

Cathedral scored two runs in the top of the fourth, with a David Ayers triple tying the game, then Ayers scored on a single. The Irish led 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Lindsey hit a double in that inning to score Eli Manbeck, then Matt Drozlek doubled Lindsey home to bring Westfield within 5-4. In the bottom of the seventh, Wilson and Manbeck both had base hits, and both scored on Gentry’s left field base hit.

Wilson finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, while Gentry and Manbeck both had two hits. Lindsey, Brayden Hibler, Drozlek and Ty Anderson each had one hit. Owen Swinford was the winning pitcher.

The Shamrocks are 3-2 and begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with Brownsburg today, playing at the Bulldogs’ field.
