Westfield dropped a hard-fought overtime game at Greensburg on Tuesday, 56-52.
It was a back-and-forth contest throughout: The Shamrocks led 10-8 after the first quarter, but the Pirates came back to tie it at 22-22 by halftime. Westfield moved ahead 29-26 after three periods, followed by a Greensburg comeback that saw it lead 43-41 with 2.9 seconds left.
Ashtin DeCraene found Alyssa Crockett for a buzzer-beater that tied the game at 43-43 at the end of regulation, forcing the extra period. But the Pirates got ahead early, and held off Westfield in the overtime.
Ava Henson scored 19 points for the ‘Rocks, with Alyssa Crockett adding 10 points and collecting nine rebounds. Gigi Eldredge pulled six rebounds. Jade Shipley handed out four assists and made four steals, with DeCraene dishing out four assists and Zoe Pentecost getting four steals.
Westfield finished the regular season 15-7 and will await the winner of a Tuesday first-round Sectional 8 game between Carmel and Noblesville. The sectional will take place at Hamilton Southeastern, with the Shamrocks playing the Tuesday winner in a Friday, Feb. 1 semi-final game.
