Westfield had a tough assignment for its first dual meet of the season, taking on No. 1-ranked Brownsburg.
The Shamrocks fell 52-12, winning two matches by fall. Carson Eldred, ranked third at 120 pounds, got a pin, then freshman Jason Rooney, competing in his first ever varsity match, took the 132-pound match with a third-period fall.
Westfield coach Philip Smith said his team, which includes two freshman, six sophomores and Eldred, the lone senior, “battled for every point but the experience of Brownsburg was too much to overcome.”
The Shamrocks return home on Saturday to host the Shamrock Duals.
