July 18, 1954 – August 12, 2018
Rita Kay Ewing, 64, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Essex Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon. Born July 18, 1954 in Noblesville, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Willie Mae (Reynolds) Ewing.
There were three things in this world that Rita held in the highest of regards: Her faith, her family and the love of a good meal. A woman of strong faith and devotion, she was a member of The Bible Church in Sheridan for many years. Rita was also sort of a self-proclaimed food connoisseur. Whether it was a church dinner, going out to eat, or just whipping up something at home, Rita loved a good meal; and if it was homemade, even better. Last but in no way least on her list was her family. To Rita, her family – and that most definitely included her pets – were the most important thing in her life.
Rita is survived by her three brothers, Burlin C. Ewing (Virginia), Gale Ewing (Louise) and Kerman L. Ewing, all of Sheridan; her sister, Donna J. Swank, Sheridan; and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Rita is also survived by her Boston Terrier, Jamaica. Rita always considered herself Jamaica’s mommy, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who loved their pets more than Rita did.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Sue Ulrey-Terrell and Lou Burgan; and three brothers-in-law, Sonny Ulrey, Gerald Swank and Tinley Burgan.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at The Bible Church, 1478 W. State Road 38, Sheridan. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastors Harrell Wilson, Russ Wilson and Jennifer Martin will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at The Bible Church in Sheridan.
