Richard Leroy “Dickie” Thomas

June 17, 1943 – August 6, 2020

Richard Leroy “Dickie” Thomas, 78, Sheridan. He was called home Thursday evening, August 6, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 17, 1943 to the late Orval Thomas and his late mother Joan (Harris) Wilson in Noblesville.

Dickie graduated from Sheridan High School Class of 1961. After graduating high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Airforce. Education was especially important to Dickie; he earned two master’s degrees. One was in business from Indiana University, and his other master’s degree was from Purdue University.

Dickie worked for 30 years as a tool and die maker at Delco Electronics GM in Kokomo. He was a member of UAW local 292, and a proud member of the Sheridan American Legion Post 67. He was a gun enthusiast and a member of the NRA. When he was not working, he would be seen riding his motorcycle watching racing or going to the local racetracks. He loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed fishing and camping every chance he got. Most importantly, he loved his family, including his dogs and cats.

Dickie leaves behind two former wives, Cheri Thomas-Timmons and Darla Thomas-Frazier; and his two devoted sons, James (Tammy) Thomas and Richard L. (June) Thomas. He was a loving grandfather to McKenzie (Gary) Hamilton, Makala Shyanne Thomas, Jordan (CJ) Jenkins, Lydia and Johnathan Smiley. He was a proud great-grandfather to Aubri, Dreydan, Cambria, Carter and Jentezen. Also surviving are his siblings, Keith (Margaret) Thomas, Ardith Sutton, Wayne (Charmayne) Thomas and Sue Morrison.

Preceding Dickie in death is his son, Edwin Earl “Sonny” Thomas in 2013; his brothers, Steve and Eddie Thomas; and his friend and brother-in-law, Larry Sutton.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Sheridan Church of God, 707 W. 2nd St., Sheridan. Family and friends are invited to gather from 5 p.m. till time of services. Pastor George Cooper will officiate Dickie’s service.
