Rex Alan Isenhour

September 13, 1946 – June 22, 2022

Rex Alan Isenhour, 75, Sheridan, passed away on June 22, 2022, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on September 13, 1946, in Lebanon, Ind., he was the son of the late Charles Edwin “Ed” and Olive Bell (Swigart) Isenhour.

Rex was a 1964 graduate of Sheridan High School, where he was awarded the Industrial Arts Student of the Year. Shortly following graduation, he was recruited by Boyer Electric, training and mentoring with them from 1964 to 1973. It was at this time that Rex decided to venture out on his own, opening Sheridan Heating & Insulation and serving the residents of the Sheridan area until his (so called) retirement. Rex was a serial entrepreneur, trying his hand at many successful ventures throughout the years, including ownership of the Sheridan Liquor Store.

Never one to sit still for too long, Rex always made sure he took time to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He loved being outdoors, and no matter what the season, he always found something fun to do. He enjoyed snow skiing and boating, but golf was always his sport of choice. He was a member of Wild Creek Golf Course, as well as the Ellington at Wachesaw East. His favorite activity, however, was getting into mischief with his grandsons, for whom Grandpa was always a willing partner-in-crime.

Rex was just one of the boys and will be truly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him, and lucky enough to call him a friend.

Rex is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Paddack) Isenhour. Rex and Patty were married on July 3, 1965. Also surviving is his daughter, Mindy M. Isenhour-Schieman (Jason) of Sheridan; grandchildren, Dylan Schieman and Troy Schieman, both of Denver; brother, Rodney L. “Rod” Isenhour (Karen) of Sheridan; sister, Ruth Ann Isenhour-Durbin of Sheridan; nephew, Greg Durbin; and nieces, Julie Durbin (Barb) and Rhonda Isenhour.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Ronald “Ron” Isenhour; sister-in-law, Linda Isenhour; and nephew, Michael Isenhour.

A Celebration of Rex’s Life will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with Visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of Service.

Rex made the choice to become and organ and tissue donor. In lieu of flowers, his family is requesting that donations and memorial contributions be made to the Indiana Donor Network Foundation.
