Rep. Brooks commends Speaker Paul Ryan for his service to the American people

On Wednesday, Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-Ind.) offered the following statement upon the announcement of Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) retirement at the conclusion of the 115th Congress:

“Speaker Ryan is a true public servant who has served in the House of Representatives for almost two decades. During that time, he has represented his constituents faithfully, the American people courageously and has continuously worked to unite the Republican Conference in Congress.

Because of his leadership, Congress was able to successfully update our nation’s tax code so that it is simpler and fairer for hardworking Hoosiers and Americans across the country. Speaker Ryan has always prioritized supporting the men and women in the armed forces to ensure they have the needed resources to safely defend and protect our nation at home and abroad. He has continuously welcomed opportunities to serve the American people selflessly and has done so each time with class, dignity and distinction.

Speaker Ryan is a family man above all and holds his title of ‘Dad’ in higher regard than any other. As a mother, I know from experience how quickly our children grow up and how important it is to be an integral part of their lives while they are still teenagers and in school. His love for his family and efforts to put them first has always been apparent in his work in Congress and should serve as a model for Members of Congress now and to come.

To my fellow Miami University graduate, God bless. You truly have served with ‘love and honor,’ and I wish you and your family happiness as you begin the next chapter of your lives.”
