If you have a friend or loved one who has recently become incarcerated, you likely have many questions. How can we talk by telephone or email? How do I send money for commissary, and when can I visit? It’s so confusing.
Indiana CURE: Advocates for Those Involved in Criminal Justice will host a panel to answer questions about how to support incarcerated individuals at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at North United Methodist Church, 3808 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis.
David Liebel from the Indiana Department of Corrections will join the panel of returned citizens, family members, and friends of incarcerated citizens. Even families who have supported individuals for years may learn new information about the long-awaited limited visitation procedures that recently began. Attendees will also receive a packet of helpful information.
According to Miriam Northcutt-Bohmert, Professor of Criminal Justice at Indiana University, research indicates family support contributes to reduction in men or women committing another crime and going back to prison. Indiana CURE is committed to reform of the criminal justice system and to supporting both incarcerated citizens and their families and friends.
