Regional Academic Championship taking place Saturday in Westfield

Some of the brightest students from Indiana are slated to test their knowledge as International Academic Competitions (IAC) holds its Indiana Winter Regional on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The event will feature individual competitions in history, geography, and science. Each event follows a buzzer-based question-and-answer format, somewhat like Jeopardy! but with all questions drawn from the academic curriculum. Top finishers will qualify for the IAC National Championships in Arlington, Va., in June.

The Indiana event will take place at Westfield Middle School, 345 Hoover St. Competition runs from approximately 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with finals tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Founded by 19-time Jeopardy! champion David Madden in 2011, International Academic Competitions runs events for elementary, middle, and high school students across the country and around the world. The worldwide schedule features the International History Olympiad in Rome and the International Environmental Science Olympiad in Ecuador during the summer of 2023.
