Reed Oliver Kemp, 47, Sheridan, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at his home after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born on July 24, 1975, in Vanderburgh County, Ind., and grew up in Boonville, Ind.
Reed attended Boonville High School where he and his 1991 golf team were inducted this winter into the school’s hall of fame for advancing to the state championship that year. He graduated from Purdue University’s College of Agriculture with a degree in turf management. After graduation, Reed went on to have a long career in the golf industry. He began in golf course construction, working for Medalist Golf, helping to implement design renovations by course architects Tom Fazio and Tom Watson across the U.S. Reed married Elisha Modisett on October 16, 2010. After getting married and making their home in Indianapolis, Reed worked as the assistant golf course superintendent at Meridian Hills Golf Club, and then later, as head superintendent at River Glen Country Club.
Reed had many interests. He was an avid golfer, having played more than 25 of the top 100 courses in the U.S. He was a member of the Ulen Country Club and the Boonville Country Club. Reed also loved music and live concerts. His favorite bands were vast – from folk to heavy metal. He had an endless amount of trivia knowledge and would sharpen his skills every night watching Jeopardy! game show. Reed also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially time with his two sons playing sports and video games.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, and uncle. In addition to his wife of 12 years, Elisha Lee (Modisett), he is survived by his sons, Alex (9) and Andrew (5); parents, Jerry and Judy Kemp of Boonville, Ind.; sister, Melodee (Duncan) Fraser of Zebulon, N.C., and brother, Tony (Rita) Kemp of Tennyson, Ind.; five nieces and nephews; in-laws, Greg and Judy Modisett of Windfall, Ind.; and brother-in-law, Erik (Sarah) Modisett of Jefferson, Md.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 20, 2023, for visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Randall & Roberts Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers, with funeral services following at 3 p.m. Pastor David Williamson will be officiating. Immediately following services, a Celebration of Life will be held at the River Glen Country Club, 12010 Clubhouse Drive, Fishers.
Private graveside services will be on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Eagle Creek Cemetery in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Reed Kemp Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Boonville High School, 300 N. First St., Boonville, IN 47601. This fund was created by the Boonville Country Club to support students with a passion for golf.
