Dear Editor,

The traffic backups from Westfield High School have long been a thorn in the side of area residents, but with the opening of our local hospital they now threaten the public safety.

The afternoon backups regularly extend south of the hospital’s main entrance and into the roundabout on State Road 32. These backups make access to the hospital difficult at best.

Shamrock Boulevard is limited to two lanes in the area, and southbound traffic clogs the only avenue of bypassing the stopped northbound lane. Ambulances seeking to access hospital emergency services will be forced to wait for enough drivers to take note of the situation and clear the roadway or perhaps take an … overland route to the facility.
