Dear Editor:
Who is investing in our community?
It’s a simple question with an equally simple answer: Democrats in Congress are investing millions in Indiana while local Republicans pose for groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings for projects funded with money their party opposed in Congress.
In 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act provided economic relief during the pandemic that our local officials used on new and existing projects: $205 million for broadband and trail expansions, and $25 million in grants for land preservation.
Our communities have greatly benefited from the Democrats’ investment:
- $20 million to White River restoration
- $25 million to expand water & sewer utilities along U.S. 31 to Bakers Corner
- $2.8 million to wastewater improvement projects in Arcadia
- $6.3 million to the new arts & municipal complex in Fishers
- $7.6 million to the Nickel Plate Trail in Fishers and Noblesville
- $2.1 million to the Monon Trail in Sheridan
- $5 million to the new YMCA in Westfield
- $500 thousand to Westfield nonprofits
- $2 million for broadband expansion in Boone County
- $3 million to the Carpenter Nature Preserve in Zionsville
- $400 thousand to updating Zionsville’s comprehensive plan
Under Indiana’s current Republican supermajority, our public schools are being defunded, support to families through Medicaid is being slashed as a result of fraud, and our rights are being stripped away. So, once again, we have to ask ourselves a simple question:
Who is investing in our community?

When is the rooster coming home to Roost! DEBT AND MORE DEBT as all of the working class realize is never an answer and for sure never the only answer… Our Govt ( WEV THE PEOPLE )are broke and it is now apparent to many that discussing the debt repayment program is now and apparently not possible with the career politicians ! Term Limits may be required to remedy and fix this out of control spending incl foreign aid to countries who haste us !
The American Rescue Plan Act was one of the primary drivers of the ghastly inflation that has stolen money from everyone’s pocket. It has made those of us, mostly seniors, on fixed incomes to suffer the most. The spending of Federal Tax Dollars, printed money, on projects as unnecessary as unidentified “Westfield Nonprofits “, a local nature preserve and walking trails is a travesty. These are all projects that are the concern and responsibility of local governments. Let the locals raise the money to fund all of the local projects.
Agreed Rodger, except Boomers are the wealthiest people and until conservatives quit quacking about fixed incomes for seniors and save “my” social security and medicare (plus Israel’s our most important ally) it is all a lost cause, just like July 3, 1863, when the Republic truly died.
Baloney.Democrats are bringing our once great country to it’s knees and anyone with an ounce of common sense or has seen costs on everything rise knows it. Stop gaslighting.
