May 3, 1936 – May 26, 2025
It is with sincere sorrow that we announce the passing of Ralph “Pete” Mayfield, who left us on May 26, 2025.
Born on May 3, 1936, in Noblesville, Ralph lived a full life filled with love, labor, and laughter. A man of many talents, he was a proud member of the Jackson Central Class of 1953, and he spent many years as a dedicated construction worker, retiring from Dallman Construction. His strong hands helped shape the landscape of our beloved city, including the construction of the pyramids in Indianapolis.
Ralph was a man of simple pleasures. He loved flea markets, shopping with his dear sister Rachel, and indulging in his favorite treat, lemon pie. A true craftsman, Ralph built birdhouses that adorn homes throughout Hamilton County. His own house, situated by the train tracks, was always decorated for the train trips that came through Cicero, a testament to his welcoming nature. In his later years, you could always count on Uncle Pete at his big sister Rachie’s family dinners on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Ralph is survived by his sons, Tracey (Beth) Mayfield and Darrell (Andrea) Mayfield; brother, David Mayfield; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Ralph Mayfield; his son, Ralph Jr.; sisters, Phyllis Dill, Rachel Ross, Betty Kaiser, and Maryann Leach; and grandson, Christopher Mayfield. Each of these family members held a special place in Ralph’s heart, as he did in theirs.
Friends and family may pay their respects at Hartley Funeral Homes, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Hartley Funeral Home with pastor Jody Brown officiating. Please join us to celebrate Ralph’s life and legacy.
In remembering Ralph, we invite you to share your favorite memories and upload photos to his memorial page. In sharing, we keep his spirit alive and honor the significant impact that Ralph had on our lives.
