The City of Carmel will present the 2023 Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate those who were killed and the loved ones who suffered.
The ceremony will begin at noon on Friday, April 21 at the Tarkington Theater and last approximately and hour and a half. A light lunch will follow.
Mayor Jim Brainard will present a proclamation naming Sunday, April 16, 2023, through Sunday, April 23, 2023, the Days of Remembrance in conjunction with the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Yom Hashoah, an international holiday for remembering the victims of the Holocaust, fell on Tuesday, April 18 this year.
In addition to Mayor Brainard, guest speakers will include:
- Keynote Speaker, Julie Sondhelm, Clinical Director of Jewish Family Services
- Rabbi Benjamin Sendrow, Congregation Shaarey Tefilla
- Rabbi Justin Kerber, Congregation Beth Shalom
- Michael Wallack, Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Human Relations
Keynote speaker Julie Sondhelm is a second-generation survivor of the Holocaust. She is the Clinical Director of Jewish Family Services and works with diverse populations in this role and provides direct support and assistance to local Holocaust survivors. She will share her grandfather’s experience.
Musical performances will include:
