Sandwiched
I can’t help but be proud of my neighborhood lately, especially over the past year. Old Town Noblesville’s south side is no longer the home of the “dirty butts” (apparently that was our nickname decades ago!) I live right in the middle of two blocks of awesomeness.
First of all, there’s the food. Who doesn’t get excited when the South 10th Street Dairy Queen re-opens every February after closing for the season in late November? Nothing beats sitting outside in the warmer months enjoying a Blizzard.
You want pizza? We’ve got TWO places for you, Firehouse Pizza and Pizza King, two of Central Indiana’s best.
Our family is partial to El Camino as well, especially since our son Jacob works there. We’ve taken extended family and out-of-town friends there for years to enjoy some of the best authentic Mexican cuisine around.
And guess what’s opening soon in our ‘hood? Ginger’s Café! I’ve literally peeked in the window every week to check on its new future location. This is a family favorite, especially for my mom. Reuben sandwiches, spinach melts and yummy breakfasts, here we come!
I don’t know what we’d do without Dollar General, which has been looking quite spiffy lately, or Village Tailors. The best I can do with sewing is maybe fix a hem or secure a button, so we’re grateful to have talented seamstresses in the next block.
One of our best-kept secrets is Center Stage Vintage Guitars. I love their spring, summer, and fall “jams” where people gather on the front porch or nearby lawn and just play some tunes together. We often enjoy dinner on our back deck while listening to these talented folks!
I’m also proud to have Prevail in the neighborhood, an organization that does so much for victims of crime and abuse in our county and beyond. Seeing them expand last year was exciting!
I’m a HUGE fan of Trends for Tails, the beautiful resale boutique benefitting the Humane Society of Hamilton County. Their clothes and home décor items are timeless. They often have fabulous sales. It’s hard for me to not slow down when I walk by their beautiful window displays.
Styles and Smiles Family Salon just opened as well, which is wonderful for those of us who have missed having Kaye’s Beauty College in the neighborhood. I visited Sherry in October for a slightly different cut and she hit it out of the park!
I’ve never visited Genesis Family Chiropractic or Auto Outfitters, a one-stop accessory store for vehicles. But both definitely add to the variety of businesses we all enjoy in this neighborhood.
And you can’t beat having God as your neighbor – in my case, Deer Creek Community Church. I love seeing the children playing outside in the nicer months as part of their preschool/childcare ministry.
If you haven’t been to Noblesville’s south side in awhile, I’d encourage you to spend some time visiting the area. My family and I will give you a warm welcome.
