The REPORTER

Carmel Swim Club head coach Chris Plumb has been named as the coach for the United States team at the 2024 World Aquatics Short Course Swimming Championships, which takes place Dec. 10 to 15 in Budapest, Hungary.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a story on the USA Swimming website. This will be the second time this year that Plumb has been part of a coaching staff on an international team; the longtime Carmel coach was an assistant at the 2024 Paris Olympics this past summer.

USA Swimming Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer Shana Ferguson was quoted in the story as saying that Plumb’s “club leadership and international experience make him a perfect fit to lead this team as our athletes close out the 2024 calendar year on the international stage in Budapest.”

In addition to Plumb, Carmel senior Alex Shackell is one of 16 swimmers that will represent the U.S. Women’s team. Shackell won a gold medal as part of the American 4×100 medley relay team at the Paris Olympics, as well as a silver medal as part of the 4×200 freestyle relay team.
