Events occurring this weekend in Indianapolis, combined with planned interstate closures for construction could lead to a busy weekend for Troopers on the highways. The Indiana State Police will be working closely with the Indiana Department of Transportation not only to prioritize traffic flow in the metropolitan Indianapolis area around the road closures, but to provide adequate messaging to warn drivers of the potential traffic back-ups.
Please do not call police dispatch centers for traffic information. For updates on traffic conditions you can follow @INDOTEast and @ISPIndianapolis on Twitter or visit Trafficwise. Extra troopers will be patrolling construction zones throughout the city.
Captain David Bursten of the state police said, “This is no different than preparing for an incoming winter storm. With proper planning and preparation the interstate closures should have minimal effect on drivers.”
